Female University student dies while in bathroom

A cloud of grief has engulfed the Mwihoko community in Githurai Sub-county, Kiambu County, following the sudden and mysterious death of a 20-year-old university student whose life came to a tragic end inside a bathroom.

The young woman, identified as Brendah Chepkemoi, was a student at Kiriri Women’s University. Her untimely death has left fellow students, friends, and family searching for answers as police launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded on Friday afternoon at a residential plot in Mwihoko Two. What began as an ordinary day quickly turned into a heartbreaking scene after residents heard desperate screams coming from one of the bathrooms at around 3 p.m.

Alarmed by the cries, neighbours rushed toward the source of the commotion. When repeated attempts to get a response from inside the locked bathroom failed, they were forced to break down the door.

Inside, they found Brendah lying unconscious on the floor. Shocked residents immediately mobilized to save her, rushing her to Sinai Medical Facility in the nearby Mwihoko Discovery area in the hope that doctors would be able to revive her.

Sadly, despite the emergency response, medical personnel pronounced her dead shortly after she arrived at the hospital, leaving those who had desperately tried to save her devastated.

Following the incident, officers from Mwihoko Police Station, detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel visited both the residential plot and the hospital to begin a detailed investigation into the mysterious death.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Brendah had entered the bathroom but had not undressed or begun preparing for a shower before she suddenly collapsed. This finding has deepened the mystery surrounding her final moments.

Police officers who examined the body reported that there were no visible external injuries, suggesting that there may have been no physical struggle or assault before her death. Crime scene experts carefully documented and processed the scene as investigators began piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy.

Brendah’s body was later transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. The autopsy is expected to help determine the exact cause of death and provide crucial answers to investigators and her grieving family.

As investigations continue, police have urged members of the public to avoid speculation and allow forensic experts to establish what happened. The sudden loss of the promising young university student has left a profound sense of sorrow among her classmates and the wider community, who now await answers about the circumstances that led to her tragic and unexpected death.
