Lucky Dube was an icon of South African reggae musician. The singer, songwriter had put South African reggae on the international music map. Before his death, Lucky dube had released reggae songs which even today, are heard by many.

LUCKY DUBE DEATH
On 18 October 2007, Lucky Dube was killed by robbers at a Johannesburg suburb called Rosettenville. Shortly after dropping two of his seven children off at their uncle’s house.
Dube was driving his Chrysler 300C, which the assailants were after. Police reports suggest he was shot dead by carjackers who did not recognize him and believed that he was Nigerian.
The murder has re-ignited criticism of the South African government’s failure to curb violent crime with even senior members of President Thabo Mbeki’s government calling for urgent and “extraordinary measures” to combat the problem.
FATE OF THE PEOPLE WHO KILLED LUCKY DUBE
Lucky Dube, 43, was killed in a botched car-jacking in October 2007 infront of wife and children. .
Five men were arrested in connection with the murder; three were tried and found guilty on 31 March 2009. Two of the men attempted to escape and were caught.
The three men who were identified as Sifiso Mhlanga, Julius Gxowa and Mbuti Mabe were sentenced into life imprisonment.
Prosecutors speaking in the Johannesburg High Court called for the men to be imprisoned for life with no chance of parole for at least 24 years.
