SARAH SEREM CV AND BIOGRAPHY
Sarah was Born in Nandi District into a Christian family, she describes her upbringing as one that was grounded on strict Christian morals; something that shaped her life. “I was born into a Christian family. My parents converted into Adventist faith ever since I was young. Adventist is a community. It is almost a lifestyle since at every age ,there are lessons to learn,” she says.
SARAH SEREM EDUCATION
Sarah pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science at the University of Nairobi. She then secured a job at the then Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation working as a personnel officer for 8 years.
“I was the first one from my village to join university. They even organised a party in my honour and showered me with gifts. Despite that achievement, my status did not change. I still valued the people around me,” she says.
sarah serem later left the organisation through an early retirement and together with a friend, established Young Biz, a multinational trading company that sharpens entrepreneurship skills in young people. In 2011, she joined the Salaries and Remuneration Commission leaving her friend to manage the outfit.
Following her term at SRC, she was nominated to be the Kenyan Ambassador to China. Her nomination was passed in parliament but has since been a subject of ridicule since the coronavirus pandemic.
This is after news reports of Kenyans and other Africans were seen sleeping in the streets of China after locals accused them of having the coronavirus. They are now not able to access public services or supermarkets as they fear being chased away.
SARAH SEREM FOUNDATION
Driven by her love for people and the desire to assist those in need, Sarah through the help of the women ministry in her church, started a home for the Maasai girl-child in 2000. The home serves as a rescue and rehabilitation centre for girls who have been married off at an early age. From an initial 13 girls, the home has grown to accommodate 200 girls, a number of whom are in high school and college. sarah serem gives it back to society
SARAH SEREM FAMILY AND CHILDREN
One of Serem’s greatest moments was marrying off two of her daughters in church — a statement that she had done her part as a good parent.
“My greatest joy was when I allowed them to enter into marriage; I felt a deep joy.”
Sarah serem has two grandchildren, whom she says give her a lot of comfort and contentment. “My joy was spiced up when my first grandson arrived. I was actually there when my daughter delivered. It was a life-changing experience.”
Her firstborn is an architect, while her second daughter studied actuarial sciences. Her third-born is a communication specialist and her youngest graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Nairobi.
Apart from dressing well but modestly, there are other rules her children have to observe.
Potential suitors for her two remaining daughters must wait until the girls have earned their second degrees. “It is a rule in my house. My daughters must have a second degree before entering marriage, nothing less than that,” she asserts.
This is because she would not want to put her daughters in a situation where they enter marriage before developing a strong mind. She argues that a second degree will enable them to raise their families with knowledge and wisdom.
Serem describes herself as a staunch Christian who holds various leadership positions in her church. She is an active member of the New Life SDA Church in Nairobi.
