A seven-year marriage has come under intense scrutiny after a Ghanaian woman, Maame Hannah, appeared on the Oyerepa Afutuo programme to open up about the painful struggles that have rocked her relationship with her husband, Takyi Prince.
What began as a marriage reportedly built on hope and companionship has now been overshadowed by accusations of infidelity, financial disagreements and a prolonged separation that has left both partners questioning the future of their union.
The couple’s troubles reportedly intensified after Prince travelled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in search of employment. His departure meant that the couple had to spend an extended period apart, with Hannah remaining in Ghana as Prince tried to establish himself abroad.
During the television discussion, however, it became clear that the two have sharply different accounts of what caused their marriage to deteriorate.
Prince reportedly accused Hannah of becoming involved with other men while he was away. According to his account, Hannah initially confessed to having an affair, an admission he said he chose to forgive because he wanted to protect their marriage.
But the situation allegedly became more painful when Hannah later disclosed additional relationships.
Prince claimed that she eventually told him she had been involved with as many as seven men. The revelations, he reportedly said, gradually destroyed the trust between them and made it increasingly difficult for him to continue fighting for the marriage.
Hannah, on the other hand, reportedly did not completely dismiss the allegations. Instead, she connected her actions to the financial hardships she faced while her husband was away and questioned the level of financial support she received during their marriage.
She said Prince initially sent her approximately KSh8,000 every month, money she relied on to take care of household expenses, including electricity bills. According to her, the amount eventually became inadequate as expenses increased, before the financial assistance stopped altogether.
Prince reportedly offered a different explanation for the decision to stop sending money. He maintained that he withdrew his financial support after becoming convinced that Hannah had been unfaithful. The repeated revelations, he said, made it increasingly difficult for him to continue investing emotionally and financially in the relationship.
The dispute then took another turn when Hannah raised financial claims of her own.
During the programme, she reportedly demanded repayment of a KSh23,000 loan and also sought a share of the proceeds from a farm the couple had previously owned together.
The emotional confrontation has sparked wider conversations about the pressures that can confront marriages when one partner leaves the country in search of better economic opportunities.
Long-distance relationships can bring opportunities for financial improvement, but they can also create challenges involving loneliness, communication, mistrust and unmet expectations. When financial difficulties are added to prolonged separation, tensions can quickly escalate.
For Hannah and Prince, those pressures appear to have taken a heavy toll. What remains unclear is whether the couple can rebuild the trust that has been lost or whether their seven-year marriage has reached its final chapter.
For now, both sides continue to present their own version of events, leaving the future of their relationship hanging in uncertainty.
