(1) South Sudanese Boy And Vulture
Famine-stricken boy who had collapsed in the foreground with a hooded vulture eyeing him from nearby. The child was reported to be attempting to reach a UN feeding center about 5 kilometers away in Ayod, South Sudan
The journalist who took this photo committed suicide due to guilt that caused depression. He later regretted because he shut the photo and went away, leaving the child without any help. The boy was rescued hours later but, unfortunately, he died days later.
(2) “Witch” Nigeria Boy
The two-year-old starving kid was abandoned by his family after suspecting that he was a witch. They left him to wandered in streets of Eket, Nigeria hoping that he would starve to death.
He was rescued by Danish aid worker eight months later called Anja loven. She adopted him alongside 37 other children. He is now seven years old and was named “Hope”.
Anja Ringgren Lovén is the founder of the charity organization DINNødhjælp, which has been protecting and rescuing children accused of being witches in Nigeria since 2012.
